ASEM’s guidelines on PDH recognition and award generally follows best practices of other professional societies such as that published by the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (https://ncees.org/wp-content/uploads/CPC-Guidelines-2017-final.pdf).

Earning PDHs from ASEM

Participation in ASEM workshops and conferences may earn PDHs for fulfilling educational requirements for various purposes such as licensure, CAEM / CPEM recertification, tenure or other professional requirements. In general an hour of an event equals one PDH. Completion certificates can be obtained from the ASEM World Headquarters. Below is a general breakdown:

• Seminars, webinars, workshops, and similar professional development (hour for hour)
• ASEM International Annual Conference (7 PDH per day of attendance, maximum 14 hours)

What kinds of activities are qualified as PDH activities for CAEM / CPEM Recertification?

In general, the activity must support the concept of continuous learning in a field related to the engineering management interests of the individual. The following activities are typically acceptable:

• Completing online courses or correspondence courses on topics related to professional practice (a certificate is required to indicate satisfactory completion). (one for one)
• Completing or attending seminars, in-house training programs which relates to EM professional practice. Again, validation of completion is required.
• Attending technical or professional society meetings when a topic related to professional practice is presented as a principal part of the program. (one for one)
• Teaching a course for the first time or if substantial time has been spent in updating material if previously taught.(1 semester hour= 90 PDH)
• Completing a college course in a related area (1 semester hour = 45 PDHs)
• Publishing a paper (10 PDH for peer reviewed, 5 PDH for other)
• Earning additional professional certifications, 15 PDHs. Issued certificate and contact information required.

Examples of supporting documentation include:

• Transcript, certificate, or other proof of completion
• Proof of attendance
• Course syllabus
• Copy of course information as printed in a conference program or brochure
• Proof of teaching or instructing
